A ring is often more than just a piece of jewelry. It can symbolize love, a personal memory, or special moments. And that's exactly why it should fit perfectly.

But how can you correctly measure your ring size?

Whether with a ring sizer, a printable ring template, or by measuring an existing ring: In this guide, we'll show you step-by-step what matters so that your ring not only looks beautiful but also feels just as good.

How to measure your ring size and determine the right fit

You've probably wondered what the right ring size actually is. The ring fits somehow – but not like a glove. Especially for an engagement ring, a personalized piece of jewelry, or a ring for life, everything should fit perfectly.

So how do you find the right ring size?

Measure your ring size directly on your finger using a ring sizer, measuring tape, or paper strip

This method is particularly straightforward. And ideal if you don't currently have a suitable ring on hand.

The easiest way to measure is with our Ring Multi Sizer. It works like a small, flexible ring measuring tape and helps you determine your ring size precisely and securely.

If you don't have a Multi Sizer, you can also use a narrow, soft measuring tape or a 5-8 mm wide paper strip. You'll also need a ruler and a pen, then you can proceed as follows:

  1. Place the measuring tape or paper strip around the finger where the ring will later sit.

  2. Pull it tight enough so that it fits comfortably. This means: not cutting in, but also not loose. Remember: the ring also has to slide over your knuckle later.

  3. Mark the point where the band overlaps.

  4. Then measure the length up to the mark in millimeters. This number corresponds to your inside circumference, i.e., your ring size.

Use a printable ring template

If you have a printer, you can also use our ring template.

Make sure to print the template at 100% size! Only then will the measurements be exact.
If you already own a ring that fits well, you can place it on the printed circles and compare which circle aligns perfectly with the inside edge.

This method is good for initial orientation, especially if you already own a piece of jewelry that feels comfortable.

Determine the inner diameter: Measure the existing ring with a ruler

If you already own a ring that fits perfectly, you can use this method. It is often particularly precise:

  1. Place the ring on a flat surface and measure the inner diameter (from inner edge to inner edge) with a ruler in millimeters. Make sure to truly measure only the inner opening.

  2. To determine your ring size from this, you can simply use our ring size overview. This will show you directly which ring size corresponds to your inner diameter.

If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the slightly larger ring size. Especially with wider rings, this often provides more wearing comfort.

What to consider when measuring your ring size

Your ring size is not "the same" every day. Fingers react to temperature, time of day, and even whether you've been active. And that's why it's worth keeping a few small things in mind when measuring. This way, your ring will not only look beautiful later but also feel just as good.

Consider temperature and time of day

Your fingers change slightly throughout the day: Cold often makes them narrower, while warmth causes them to swell more quickly. Therefore, it's best to measure your ring size when your hands feel "normal," i.e., at a comfortable room temperature and not immediately after sports, a sauna, or a walk in the cold.

So, it's better to measure your ring size twice. For a perfect result, you can also follow these tips:

  • Measure at two different times of the day (e.g., afternoon and evening)

  • Make sure the measurement fits comfortably and also over the knuckle

  • If your result is exactly between two sizes, choose the slightly larger one – this often feels more comfortable, especially for wider rings

Good to know: Wider ring bands often feel tighter than very delicate rings. So if you're planning a slightly more robust design, your ring size can be a bit "looser" if in doubt.

And if you are exactly between two sizes, we naturally also make intermediate sizes, such as 52.5. This way, your ring will truly fit like a glove and accompany you with maximum comfort.

Left or right ring finger: Which finger is right for the engagement and wedding ring?

In Germany, many couples traditionally wear the wedding ring on the right hand. The engagement ring is often worn on the left, and at the wedding, some move it to the right hand or later combine it with the wedding ring.

Ultimately, what matters most is what feels right to you.

However, to determine the correct ring size, you should first decide: On which hand should the ring later sit? Because your fingers can differ slightly between the left and right hand.

If you are already contemplating your wedding rings, you will find a selection of lovingly crafted designs in our Wedding Collection that will accompany you for a lifetime.

Secretly finding out the ring size for an engagement ring: Here's how to do it

An engagement ring is a very special piece of jewelry. If you're planning a loving surprise, you can find out the ring size without giving anything away.

The simplest option: Use a ring that your partner regularly wears on their left ring finger. Borrow it for a moment and measure the inner diameter in millimeters. Alternatively, you can place the ring on a ring template or discreetly have it measured at a jeweler.

It's important that the ring is actually worn on the finger for which the engagement ring is intended later. The right and left hands can differ slightly, and even small deviations make a difference in ring size.

If no suitable ring is available, you can get creative. Perhaps a close friend, sister, or mother knows or can discreetly feel it out. Sometimes a shared conversation about jewelry, without it sounding like a proposal, also helps.

You can also be more strategic: Send your partner on a relaxing shopping trip with friends, which incidentally leads to trying on various rings. This way, you get a feel for the style and size of the ring without giving away the surprise.

If you are wavering between two sizes, choose the slightly larger one in case of doubt. A high-quality ring can often still be adjusted.

And that's why you can stay completely relaxed. Even if the ring size isn't 100% perfect, we'll be happy to help you with an adjustment later.

In the end, all that matters is that one moment when your sparkling ring becomes a symbol of your shared future.

If you are looking for a ring that reflects your story – with sparkling lab-grown diamonds, recycled gold, and great attention to detail – you will find a selection of sustainable engagement rings in our Bridal Collection.

If the ring doesn't fit perfectly later...

Our fingers naturally change over the course of our lives, for example, due to pregnancy, during breastfeeding, or simply over the years.

So, even with the greatest care, it can happen that your ring feels different in everyday life than expected. Maybe it slips easily, maybe it fits a little tighter than expected. But that's no cause for concern.

Because the good thing about high-quality rings is: In many cases, the ring size can be adjusted afterwards.

Have the ring size adjusted later

If your ring is too loose or too tight, an experienced goldsmith can usually adjust it. Gold rings, in particular, can usually be enlarged or reduced without problems.

It is important that you do not experiment yourself. A ring is a delicate piece of jewelry and should be handled with care and craftsmanship.

Strong design elements such as encircling engravings, continuous stone settings, or very filigree ring bands can influence the adjustment.

Options for enlarging and reducing rings

Depending on the ring design, different techniques are used:

  • Reduction: The goldsmith removes a small piece of the ring band and precisely reattaches it.

  • Enlargement: Either the material is carefully stretched (for small adjustments) or a suitable piece of precious metal is inserted.

As a rule, rings can be easily adjusted by one to two sizes. Larger changes should be carefully checked to ensure that the shape, stability, and aesthetics are maintained.

And that's why you can stay relaxed: A ring accompanies you for a lifetime. Small adjustments are sometimes simply part of it.

Frequently asked questions quickly answered

Below you will find answers to further questions on the topic of "measuring ring size."

What are the different ways to determine ring size?

There are several options: a professional ring sizer at a jeweler, a flexible ring measuring tape, trying on and taking off a fitted ring, measuring finger circumference with a thread or ruler, and tracing the ring on a piece of paper.

A piece of soap or play-doh can also help by pressing your finger into it and measuring the width.

How do I find out my darling's ring size without her noticing?

If you are trying to determine the correct ring size without informing the person, secretly measure a well-fitting ring that she already wears.

As already mentioned, a joint shopping day with her best friend can also be a charming solution.

What other tips are there for determining the correct ring size and measuring it properly?

The following tips can help you determine the correct ring size:

  • Measure the finger circumference with a thread or flexible measuring tape

  • Repeat the measurement at different times of the day

  • Use a ring sizer or ring gauge for more accuracy

  • Use a conversion table for exact ring sizes

Also, pay attention to whether the ring can be easily put on and taken off and which wearing comfort is most pleasant for you.
